It was almost the session that became flooded!
Amanda contacted RyKie Images & Events for a last minute headshot recently. The original plan was to meet at a location in Brooks on a perfectly overcast afternoon. Of course, as soon as we made that plan to meet, a flash flood hit the Centennial City, so we needed to relocate closer to the International Home Office in Rosemary!
Now, you may recall Amanda from another session we did earlier this year. She is an amazing artist and very passionate about cosplay. We had the chance to shoot a princess session over at Kinbrook Island Provincial Park this spring. This time, however, Amanda needed to showcase a character she never photographed professionally before: herself!
Unbeknownst to us, a local youth group was using our first choice for a location, so we tried a few other spots nearby, and had an interesting conversation with a Pokemon GO player who was utilizing a PokeStop.
Fortunately, the weather cooperated, and we ended up with some fantastic images - an easy task when working with someone so comfortable in front of a camera!
Here's some tips for people planning to get professional headshots done.
- Wear solid, muted clothing
Tops with patterns, bright colours or logos can distract from the main feature - your face!
Avoid that 'deer-in-the-headlights' look. This is where your photographer's ability to make you laugh is key.
Slouching will accentuate the wrong features. You want to convey confidence with your stance.
- The eyes have it
There are a few subtle tricks with the eyes to make your image pop.
